Outdoor Recreation offers the thrill seeker a myriad of adventure programs that take advantage of the great outdoors to be enjoyed at Barksdale. A variety of special events are hosted by your Outdoor Recreation staff including canoe trips, archery tournaments, bike riding, and organized hikes. Additionally, the annual Defenders of Liberty Mud Run is a huge event that takes place on the east side at the Warrior Center. Horseback riding, Ziplining, and indoor skydiving trips are offered frequently. Programs are priced for affordability and fees often augmented for Airmen with grant funding like Rec On, Single Airmen Initiative and R4R dollars. If solitude is more to your liking, you can get back to nature and hike the three or seven mile wooded trails. Hiking trails begin on the East side of Flag Lake Gate and are well marked to make it difficult to accidentally stray off course. Stop by the Natural Resources Office to pick up a map of the area. Additionally, the combination to the Flag Lake gate can be found at Equipment Rental, Natural Resources, or the East Side Shoppette. Louisiana is Sportsman’s Paradise and you are in a great spot. Visit the Outdoor Recreation folks and make your assignment at Barksdale your own outdoor adventure.
