2601E Paul Jones Street, North Chicago, IL 60068
The Great Lakes Naval Base, located in Lake County, Illinois, is home of the US Navy's Recruit Training Command - the Navy's only enlisted boot camp. Recruit training is approximately seven weeks long and transforms civilians into Sailors through lessons in seamanship, firearms, Navy heritage and physical fitness. Additional units on Great Lakes include the Training Support Center and Navy Recruiting District Chicago. The base's historic district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. One of the greatest landmarks on the property is Building 1, or the Clocktower Building, a redbrick, 300-foot tower built in 1911. The Great Lakes Naval Museum is also found on base and contains exhibits depicting the history of the US Navy with a particular emphasis on the Navy's boot camp. This Great Lakes Naval Base directory features the critical info you’ll need to navigate through the many facilities and recreational opportunities available on base.
